This is not an event

It is inconsequential

One foot in front of the other

To walk almost at midnight

This is an event

It is such a big deal

It requires a WhatsApp group

Multiple messages

Rules

Intention

Posters being made to advertise

Maps and journeys plotted

To put one foot in front of the other

To walk, almost at midnight

This is not an event

No one was bothered

No one cared

One foot in front of the other

To walk, almost at midnight

This is an event

Womxn laughing under the moonlight

Chatting, talking, making connections

The usual dangers… night… men… walking in the dark in South Africa mitigated because there were many feet being put one in front of the other…

Walking… almost at midnight

This is not an event

We were walking almost at midnight

Giving the moon a chance to experience our joy that we could put one foot in front of the other, walking almost at midnight

To walk almost at midnight,

To start,

To end as it started,

Still whole…

Women Walk at (Almost) Midnight, Milnerton

24 April 2025

🗓️ February 4th, 8pm

📍Sea Point Pavillion

✊🏽 In keeping with our roots and new commitment to walk with intention, next Tuesday we will walk in solidarity with woman leaders of Reclaim the City's Ahmed Kathrada House (AKH) occupation.

🧩 We will walk Sea Point to build our understanding of how race, class and more affects women's experience of our streets.

🏗️ This walk includes a special stop at the Tafelberg site, an unused prime piece of public land in Sea Point that woman domestic workers in the area have been fighting to access since the 1980s.

🏛️ The fight for affordable housing on Tafelberg goes to the Constitutional Court on 11 February - join the walk to learn more!

👥 Anyone who identifies as a woman or as non-binary is welcome.
